Darla’s Dalliances – My Perspective on NaNoWriMo

First of all, I’d like to thank Rochelle Bradley for hosting me. It’s a real honor to be included in this awesome project. I really enjoyed her take on blogging about NaNoWriMo last year and look forward to reading what others have to say as November begins.

On that note,  as I write this on Halloween, November is only a day away! My project doesn’t even have a title yet. That is extremely unusual for me. Some stories I’ve written progress from the title such as 2013’s “Jimmying the Locke”. The only thing this project has in common is its erotic theme. Or so goes the plan.

Plotting ahead is not my style. Nonetheless I have been succeeding under the name Darla M Sands for my Dayton, Ohio USA NaNo region since 2011 and two years with April’s Camp NaNo. Thanks goes to author A. Catherine Noon for initially introducing me in 2010. I admittedly didn’t try then due to fear of failure.

That leads to a big piece of advice. Don’t worry overmuch about meeting the word count for a “win”. NaNo is all about writing – especially cementing and keeping up the habit. That’s the only real way to improve as an author, after all. This is what keeps me coming back despite some dry spells in between challenges. So even if you lag behind do NOT stop.

Encouragement by great folks like our gifted Rochelle Bradley also inspires the competitive urge. The camaraderie is a welcome change for this loner. And I am further blessed by cheers from around the country. Thanks to everyone on the Writer Zen Garden, founded in part by A. Catherine Noon and her coauthor Rachel Wilder and Tina Holland . Be aware that the above links include some steamy material including m/m erotica.

As I leave you to your own creative endeavor let me close with a photo of my late, great writing buddy Luna. You are missed, my feline friend.

  1. Thank you for joining in the Nanowrimo fun and sharing your experiences with us. I wish I could have met your furry companion. She looks super cuddly.

  2. Thank *you*, my dear, for all your inspiration and efforts for our region.

I so wish Luna were still here. She worked her way into our home off the neighborhood streets and not only provided truly super cuddles but actually got me on better asthma medications that improved my quality of life. It also opened the door to two other strays currently lazing toward old age.

It was great seeing you this morning. Keep up the great writing.
