Urban Fantasy Writer: Leslie the Inkweaver
• Title of 2016 nano project & genre: The Amazon
Triangle (Urban Fantasy)
• How many years have you participated? This will be my 6th
year!
• How did you find out about writing for Nano? When I was
doing college online, a few other students were participating, and at the time
I don't think I was writing 50K in a single story, much less a month. I started
tracking my word count and just experimenting with writing every day, and I had
so much fun that the next opportunity (two years later... Because my second
attempt "accidentally" happened in October...) I actually registered,
and I've been doing it officially ever since!
• Strategy or tip for making the daily 1667... My strategy is just
to write all the words that come into my head. Describe exactly what the
character's eyes are seeing; describe their feelings, describe all the nuances.
If you have trouble describing, practice "watching in slow motion."
Pretend the scene is a key part of a film and you're watching it in slow
motion. If you slow it down in your head, you don't feel the pressure to get
through it, and you can use more words in describing it.

ReplyDeleteWhat a unique and promising piece of advice to slow down your imagining of a scene. I like it, as well as your name. Thank you for sharing this. Happy writing!
