How many years participated? NaNoWriMo-won 10 years, ML for Oxford, Ohio region 2 years; ScriptFrenzy-won 2 years; Camp NaNo-participated 3 times

How did you find out about writing for Nano?
I was told about NaNoWriMo by one of my friends who was participating in the same year (2006).

Story:
I’ve always been grateful to NaNoWriMo for putting me under deadlines and giving me goals to help motivate me to keep writing. I think without some sort of set goal, I tend to let myself slip on writing and make excuses. “Oh, I’ll get to it later.” In November, with NaNoWriMo, I get to it now; I’ve got to meet my word count.

But the best thing I’ve gotten from NaNo goes beyond just the motivation in November. By getting involved in my local NaNo region, I became connected to the group of writers that is now my regular writing group. Together we share our writing, offer advice, and encouragement, and just provide each other with friendship and support. These people have become some of my closest friends, and they’ve helped me to grow as a writer in ways I would never have on my own.

    Thank you for participating today, Doug. Sometimes having that daily goal is all the motivation I need to spur me forward. I too, have met people who I feel are lifelong writing friends. I wouldn't be the writer I am today if it weren't for my friends (and Nano, of course).

I’m a Municipal Liaison for the Dayton, Ohio region for NaNoWriMo.  I have been participating in since 2012, and while I do try to participate in Camp NanoWriMo I am far more successful in November. The pressure and the rigorous pace suit me.  Many people hear “50,000 words in 30 days” and get nervous or scared. But if it wasn’t a challenge it wouldn’t be worth doing, in my opinion. Don't Be Lonely

Writing can be lonely. Let's face it, it's a solitary activity. If you feel isolated, here are some suggestions. This time last year I was truly TheNoviceWriter  but over the course of twelve months I've had many other novice writers ask me questions about writing. I found I could not only answer but offer advice based on my experiences in 2014. #1: Join a writing group. Once a week, once a month or even once a year meet with others who share your passion. You can find these groups on Meetup or other social media sites like Facebook. Enter your location and your interest and voila! You'll have a list to choose from. Your local library might offer writing clinics or clubs. National Novel Writing Month  is a event that happens every November. You have a chance to connect to other writers in your area on the forums but they also host "write-ins" at local coffee shops like Panera. NaNoWriMo Tips from the Muse

Happy 2016 NaNoWriMo season! I’m Kelly Blanchard, known online as the Muse, but on the NaNo site, I’m as Kellannetta, and this is my ninth year to participate in NaNo. This year I’m co-writing a fantasy novel with my boyfriend, which we have temporarily titled ‘The King’s Hand’. Since we’re co-writing, we technically need to write 100,000 words so we will have 50,000 words between the two of us, but we will see what happens! A year before I joined, my mother discovered the NaNoWriMo challenge, and she participated in it.
